Wrap Around Extensions
Shape Architecture continues to transform properties with a variety of extensions, many of which are wrap around extensions. Here we highlight two current such projects. One has just received planning permission in Brighton and one is about to be submitted for planning in Fulham.
Our Brighton extension has been explored in a variety of ways including through detailed 3D computer visualisations. This allows for a clear and efficient dialogue between Client and Architect. We produced four design options, and it was the full wrap around with green sedum roof that our Client preferred and that gained planning permission. The Sedum roof has many benefits ranging from the sustainable, ecological and thermal benefits to the considerable visual benefit of looking out over a green roof from upper level windows.
Set within the sedum roof are large format rooflights to help flood the interior with daylight. Added to this are extensive glazed doors and screens to increase the connection between inside and outside spaces.
Our wrap around extension to a flat in Fulham follows a different approach. Here a timber framed glazed extension to the rear and side determines the nature of the design. As with the project in Brighton, a wide range of options developed in both in 2D and 3D were provided for the Client and these were reviewed over several meetings at our Client’s property, until the preferred design was agreed.
Clear communication and an interest in creating light filled, contemporary interiors form our approach to transforming Clients homes. This has been recognized by the Royal Institute of British Architects in their recent publication ‘House goals: Work with Architects; transform your home’, where Shape Architecture was one of only 30 UK practices asked to showcase their work.
