What’s starting on site in 2024

Shape Architecture has gained many planning permissions this year throughout Brighton and Hove and London and these projects will be starting on site in 2024.  As always they show a diversity  in size, type and location.  They range from a number of side infill and rear extensions  in Fulham and similar in Brighton to roof terraces throughout London and Brighton.  They include many projects in conservation Areas and Listed Buildings.  We continue to work for both private presidential and Developer clients and have spent another year wring alongside both consultants and contractors with whom we have longstanding relations.  In many instances stretching back some 17 years and will  continue to offer our clients the benefit of this experienced and efficient team.

    Winchendon Road

This Fulham wrap around extension serves to totally transform a ground floor flat. Contemporary and light filled, the extension creates a spacious kitchen and living space with excellent physical and visual connection with the garden. The material treatment of the roof is of interest, as where we often use green sedum roofs with rooflights set within, this approach sees a largely glazed roof providing a strong feeling of space and openness and flooding the interior with natural light. As soon as you enter the space you are very aware of the garden and sky and the paly of light and shadow. This project has been developed alongside the wrap around extension in Brighton at Fernhurst Road and whilst a markedly different deign it has benefitted in the same way from the integrated use of 3D computer modelling. If you have a wrap around extension in mind please feel free to contact us at Shape Architecture we would be very happy to discuss the options.

    Dover House Road

Planning permission has been awarded for our extension project in Dover House Road in Putney.  Here we are working on the Dover House Estate Conservation Area adding a rear extension to and end of terrace house and opening up the interior to provide a light and bright contemporary design.  The house as presently configured is quite typically a series of smaller rooms.  The roof to the extension is finished as a green sedum roof and rooflights and glazed doors ensure the space is filled with natural light.  As with all of our projects no matter what the size, the design was developed with extensive use of 3D modelling to ensure a clear communication with our Client.

    Balfour Road

Shape Architecture has just obtained planning permission for a series of extensions to a property in Balfour Road.  The project called for the addition of a side infill and rear extension, a range of rooflights to flood the interior with daylight, the replanning of internal layouts to create a contemporary interior with a focus on internal storage and design ideas to create a sense of volume and space.   We were selected in competition on the basis of our portfolio of work and how our approach to residential design answers these questions.  Some of the design features include the removing of the ceiling from the single storey to open u the face to the underside of the roof.  This also allows rooflights to be added to further increase the sense of a light filled volume.
