Shape Architecture has completed design concepts for a loft conversion in Kensington.
This project is of interest as it illustrates both the opportunities that exist in what is a typical form of development coupled with the value of designing and communicating with 3D computer graphics.
Set on top of a mansion block in Kensington and bounded by high party walls the geometry of this rooftop site was complex, but what it has is far reaching views across London which could be exploited.
At Shape Architecture a common theme through our projects of all types and sizes is the use of natural light and it is on this basis that we approached the design of this loft conversion.
There was the sense that flanked by high walls left and right and with a spectacular view straight ahead that standing on a platform looking over the view with the sky above giving a sense of openness was how the concept should evolve.
A large extent of glass roof enables light to flood down to the floor below and as one walks up the stair to the loft conversion the views of the sky set the stage for the views across London on entering the room.
A simple palette of high quality materials and the creative use of artificial lighting completes the composition of this creative loft conversion.
