This project is particularly successful in the connection made both physically and visually between the new basement and the ground floor. A feature stair with large rooflight over sits within the new kitchen dining room. This brings a lot of daylight into the basement and from the basement provides views of the sky. The stair itself is a simple and elegant mix of glass and wood that complements the kind of contemporary interventions and refurbishments seen across Fulham architecture today. An impressive sense of light and space is created in the basement around the stair and this is extended into the basement family room where a frameless glass screen and sliding door assembly allows the maximum amount of light to filter between the spaces and develops the overall sense of openness.
