Listed Building in Brighton
At Upper Market Street in Brighton we are working on the transformation of a Grade 2 listed building incorporating a series of roof terraces and the redesign of the internal stairs. The contemporary reworking of a listed buildings, the addition of roof terraces and the design of stairs are all areas of expertise for our practice and we are very pleased to be working on a project that brings them all together.
Brighton Roof Terrace
Throughout Brighton and London, Shape Architecture has a solid reputation for the addition of roof terraces to properties of all types. From terraced houses to mews properties, houses in conservation areas to roof terraces to listed buildings. From a flat to a terraced house in Danehurst Street in Fulham to a roof terrace to the famous grade 2 listed Florin Court in Charterhouse Square in Westminster. A breadth of experience that benefits all our clients. We have recently finished another transformative roof extension in a conservation area in Brighton in Norfolk Road. Here access to the roof terrace is via a glazed cube where one side of the glazed roof slides over the other. The roof terraces at this current project are smaller but link with each other and at each level the terrace offers much benefit to the space giving onto it. Views of the sea are a bonus to be enjoyed.
Stair Design
As a creative practice, stair design forms an interesting part of our portfolio, underscored by a strong technical understanding. The interest comes both from the form of the stair and the detail design. A contemporary stair set within a listed building setting works extremely well.
Brighton listed buildings
Throughout our nineteen years of practice in London and in Brighton we have consistently worked on listed buildings. Our projects are typically the contemporary transformation of the listed property. Creating light filled contemporary interiors, opening up the interior and adding roof terraces. The planning process is key. We always demonstrate to the planners a comprehensive understanding of the history of the property ‘ the Heritage asset’ and the development over time of the surrounding area. The planning approach also sees a Pre-App submission made prior to the listed building application. A pre-app allows you test the water with several design options and receive valuable feedback.
