Extension and transformation of an apartment at the Grade 2 listed Hansom Cab Pub
Shape Architecture carries out works to listed buildings in Kensington, throughout London and in Brighton and Hove. We create contemporary living spaces more suited to modern life filled with natural light, from what are often a series of smaller and poorly lit interiors. Our success is based on good and well established relationships with the council’s heritage teams coupled with a full understanding of the value of the heritage asset we are seeking to transform and the demonstration of this in the Heritage statement we write which accompanies the application. Our project at the Hansom Cab Pub had several key issues, both in terms of planning and the construction methods employed. The extension had to recreate the nature of the existing brickwork detailing and as the works to the apartment progressed on site they had to be designed to minimise disruption to the functioning of the pub below. Careful consideration and the integration with the structural system proposed ensured its success.
