The Drive

Private Residential
Grade 2 Listed Apartment in the Drive, Hove
Shape Architecture continues to obtain planning consents for listed properties in Brighton and Hove. Here in the Drive we were granted listed building consent for works to a Ground floor flat. We added a further bedroom which replaced an existing kitchen and then relocated the kitchen into a large kitchen and dining space, enabling our Client to enjoy contemporary living in a listed property that they were keen to remain in. Adding another bedroom also addressed their needs. We also obtained retrospective consent for works previously carried out without listed building consent. The kitchen is located against an existing wall and the existing door within the wall is fixed permanently closed and retained within its opening. Large scale details and conversations with the Heritage team at Brighton and Hove enabled this to happen. This permission is similar to others at 26 and at 23 Brunswick Terrace on the seafront where we have opened up adjacent rooms to create a large living dining spaces.
Our Client at The Drive writes:
Jason at Shape Architecture worked with us to remodel our listed apartment including relocating the kitchen & bathroom, guiding us through the planning and consent processes, along with all the licenses and awards required. We faced a number of challenges associated with the listed status of the building, and acoustic concerns of neighbours below, however Jason worked and reworked plans until a solution was found that met all requirements and gave us the home layout we desired. Always professional, friendly, and responsive throughout the project.
