This year has been very busy for Shape Architecture working in Brighton and Hove from our office in Maritime House. As ever it has followed our interest in working on the broadest spectrum of work of all types and size.
Below we describe a variety of our projects undertaken in 2024.
Brighton Roof Terrace in a Conservation Area
Shape Architecture has a well established reputation for the design of roof terraces throughout London and Brighton to buildings of all types and size ranging from listed buildings (Florin Court, Westminster) to Conservation Areas (Norfolk Road, Brighton), Mews Houses ( Adam and Eve Mews, Kensington) and Flats ( Cavendish House, Brighton). This year sees the completion of our roof terrace in Norfolk Road. A glass box with one side sliding over the other provides access to the roof terrace with extensive views over Brighton and Hove and out to sea. In addition to the roof terrace we also obtained planning permission for first floor rear extensions which added en suite bathrooms and walk in wardrobes to each bedroom. A series of photovoltaic panels on the roof generates electricity. The project has transformed the property inside and outside.
Brighton Extension
We have worked on many extensions in Brighton this year of all types. A particularly successful one, soon to start on site is located near our office at Erroll Road. A narrow rear extension links existing rooms serving to improve the flow and connection with the garden. A facade of sliding doors and glazed bricks with a standing seam roof makes for a contemporary addition to the property
Brighton House Development
Our largest project in Brighton this year transforms a half derelict site filled with a variety of workshops and garages into four new mews type houses. A careful composition both in terms of location, design and materials has resulted in an elegant and light filled small housing scheme. Sculpted roofs finished with green sedum and punctuated with a series of roof lights define the entry to each house. All rooms are well proportioned with extensive views and filled with light.
A project in Seaford
In Seaford we have transformed a 1970s Wimpey bungalow into a contemporary home. A wrap around extension and loft conversion coupled with a series of double height spaces transform the space and updates our clients home to serve their needs. We very much enjoyed this project as the difference between before and after to match our clients needs is so clear.
Two storey glazed extension in Brighton
We use glass extensively and our work is characterised by its transparency and light filled interiors. This project is in its early stages and the use of 3D modelling in the development of the design is evident. A two storey glazed façade requires a great deal of thought and the modelling process has helped in this as we discuss the various options with our clients.
Brighton Listed Buildings
We have continued to undertake a variety of listed building projects in Brighton and Hove, particularly along the seafront and in areas such as Brunswick Terrace where, through client recommendations we have worked on a number of projects which see the interior spaces being re worked to suit modern living.
Shape Architecture in 2025. We hope the above gives an ideas as to the type of work we undertake in Brighton and Hove and its neighbouring towns. If you are considering transforming your home in 2025 we would be very happy to talk to you.
