Stair Design
Over our nineteen years a feature of our work has been the design of stairs. Our portfolio of stair design demonstrates a creative and varied approach to each stair, underscored by experience and technical know-how.
Every stair is explored and developed in 3D to fully understand how the stair sits in its space and relates to other elements around it. Stairs are often difficult to visualise and we want to ensure we communicate clearly with our clients throughout the design and technical development phases.
Our approach to stair design sees us exploring the relationship with other key elements in the space via the geometry and form of the stair coupled with the materials and detailed design. At our Community Centre near Brighton a simple stair is brightly coloured and set against a two storey glazed external screen to be a key feature of the entrance hall. In similar fashion at a basement extension in Fulham the stair is set within a glass cube. These stairs relate to strongly to the architecture of the building and are flooded with daylight. Our basement projects have offered up the opportunity for stairs of many different designs, ranging from external glass and timber stairs set in lightwells and connecting to glass bridges, to others that follow the rhythm of the existing stair flights but are detailed in a simple and elegant manner.
