Grade 2 Listed Apartment in the Drive, Hove
This project is similar to other recent consents in Brunswick Terrace, Hove, where we have reworked Listed apartments to create large contemporary kitchen living and dining spaces. Here we were also able to re-order the rooms to create a further bedroom and address several retrospective consents for existing works without permission. Key to all these consents is an understanding of the Heritage asset we are working with and of the detailed process when making applications for listed building consents. We find the pre-app process is a good foundation for a successful application, as it enables early feedback and a dialogue with the Heritage Team. A detailed Heritage Statement is also important, as are large scale, sometimes 1:1 scale details, to support the proposals and these may be of doors, windows or other similar items. As with all of our projects no matter what the size we use 3D graphics to clearly communicate with our Clients and this is a very important part of the process.
Our Client at The Drive writes:
Jason at Shape Architecture worked with us to remodel our listed apartment including relocating the kitchen & bathroom, guiding us through the planning and consent processes, along with all the licenses and awards required. We faced a number of challenges associated with the listed status of the building, and acoustic concerns of neighbours below, however Jason worked and reworked plans until a solution was found that met all requirements and gave us the home layout we desired. Always professional, friendly, and responsive throughout the project.
