Westminster Projects
Given our 17 years of experience in working throughout Westminster we enjoy well established relationships with a group of similarly experienced consultants. Equally we maintain long established relationships with Contractors experienced in working throughout Westminster. We have a longstanding experience of working with the Westminster planning department and in particular the Heritage department. We also enjoy a relationship of over 15 years with excellent planning consultants who are able to contribute to complex planning projects as required.
Reworking of listed apartment in Grosvenor Square
Shape Architecture has carried out a number of transformations of apartments in Westminster. Often to listed buildings these projects take apartments configured as a series of small rooms, often quite dark and in their arraignment poorly suited to modern living. From this starting point we transform the property to create light bright contemporary spaces.
Reworking of apartment in St. James Place
Following the success of our project at Grosvenor Square we were recommended for a very similar project in St. James Place. Here once more the layout of the apartment did not reflect the lifestyle of the owner. A revised layout with new bathrooms and kitchen and improved circulation solved this issue. A series of bespoke items of furniture designed by Shape Architecture contributed still further to a sense that everything in the transformed apartment was both elegant and worked exactly how our client wished it to.
Large roof terrace added to listed Florin Court
Our portfolio of roof terrace projects is large and diverse. Arguably, the most significant roof terrace project we have carried out is the one we created at the Grade 2 listed Florin Court in Charterhouse Square. Here we designed a series of rooftop spaces ranging from herb gardens to yoga zones and social spaces. Despite being Grade 2 listed and in a very prominent position Shape Architecture gained planning permission at our first attempt and this was without any third-party help from planning consultants. We were extremely pleased and as were our clients as these new facilities provide welcome amenity space to all flat owners in Florin Court.
Our client writes:
“Shape did a wonderful job designing the private roof garden of Florin Court in Charterhouse Square.
We now have an amenity which is much enjoyed by the residents of the 120 flats who can enjoy beautiful surroundings and sensational views across London.
Shape worked well within a tight budget and interacted effectively with both ourselves as the client as well as our surveyors.”

Extension to Mews house in Huntsworth Mews
Here we gained planning permission for the addition of an extra floor, the conversion of a garage into habitable space and the addition of a basement extension. This is truly an example of transforming a home. We have carried out works to many Mews properties and very often as is the case here they are in Conservation Areas. Our Mews project in Adam and Eve Mews is another good example of a property transformed. In this case a roof terrace is also added providing valuable amenity space.
